Member Sharing Strength & Hope
“The present moment gives birth to the next. If I fill this moment with gratitude, the next moment can’t help but bring blessings”. (Hope for Today)
“I can start my day over at any time. Finding a reason to feel grateful is a great way to do it”. (Hope for Today)
“I want to thank my Higher Power for giving me the gift to live with an alcoholic and the opportunity to have arrived in an Al-anon room”. (Hope for Today)
“I have certain special abilities that are gifts from my Higher Power. Helping people is a good way to use them and to show God how grateful I am.” (One Day at a Time in Alateen)
“I have much to be thankful for, in my new way of life, a lot I owe to other people but also I'm Grateful to myself.” (One Day at a Time in Alateen)
I arrived at the Al-anon group because I didn't know how to discern the dynamic of life I was living. At the moment of arrival to the meeting, I realized that having grown up in a home where there was alcohol at all parties and family gatherings was the cause of my unmanageable behavior as an adult. Through the help of the program, the instruments, the meetings, the 12 steps, the service, and the mutual support, I have found recovery one day at a time. I am working hard every day to become a person further adaptable towards society. I truly believe that God, as I understand, had great plans for me by answering my prayers and taking me to a fellowship like Al-Anon and Alateen. It was here where I was able to find people with whom I identify with and finally be in a place where I didn’t have to earn my space, they simply made a space for me and let me be the one to decide whether I wanted to take it or leave it. I was finally able to belong.
I am very grateful to the group Happiness of Living (Alegria de Vivir) for being there for me every time I need emotional support and unconditional love. I recently heard about it at the Al-anon International Convention. “This is my place, and these are my people” The support and understanding I found in this meeting are priceless. I will be forever grateful.
