Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

First, I’d like to express deep gratitude to the 2024 San Diego County AFG Area Information Service Office (AIS) Board Members. A special thank you to both those who are rotating out: Anita R., Christine D., Dan B., Elo O., Kristen S., Martin D., Sandra L., Trenta R., and Werner B.; and to those who will continue in 2025: Cindi H., Dora S., Ron P., and Susan L.

The New 2025 AIS Board begins with representation in all positions listed above, along with their email contact information. We all welcome your questions and comments, as we are here to serve you.

A new year is when many people set personal goals. Are you one who does? Have you made an Al-Anon service goal? Would you join me in accepting a new (to you) service commitment sometime this year? I have a few suggestions: volunteering in the AIS Office, sponsorship, group service positions, applying for a Service Board position in the Fall, welcoming newcomers at your home meeting, the possibilities are endless. A quote from Courage to Change, page 336 ”As I do service work, I see myself accomplishing things, giving, receiving, growing. I see my progress as I learn to learn, and as the lessons become a part of me, I take them into all areas of my life.”

Yours in service and with gratitude,

Sherry M.

Board Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

At our recent Board meeting in December, we welcomed new Board members Alexa C, David M, Dora S, Janice G., Katrina D., and Ted P. and discussed the roles these individuals will hold in the coming two years. We also had a few members express interest in joining the Board in appointed positions and reviewed the roles they might hold. In that process, it came to light that the one open role is Board Chair.

We are in a quandary because, as a nonprofit organization, we are required to fill our Board officerpositions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. To make things more complicated, the By-Laws stipulate that this position must have served on the Board for at least a year. No one on the current board can step into the Chair role, and the new Board members have not yet fulfilled the one-year requirement.

I am asking those of you who have previously served on the AIS Office Board to consider stepping up and do so before the January 11, 2025, Board and ISR meetings.

If you are moved to service, please get in touch with me directly or Dan B., the current Board Historian. Dan can be reached at [email protected].

Yours in service,

Cindi H., Board Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

I am pleased to share that ISRs have approved six individuals nominated for open SD AIS Office Board positions! We are delighted to welcome new Board members Alexa C., David M., Dora S., Janice G., Katrina D., and Ted P. We look forward to working with them to confirm exact positions and to support them as they transition into their Board roles.

As a reminder, several interim Board positions are still available. Please contact our Historian, Dan B., if you are interested in exploring an interim appointment. Dan can be reached via email at [email protected].

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Thank you to all who supported our annual Non-Event Fundraiser and those who responded to our 2024 Member Survey.

Yours in service,

Cindi H., Board Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

I am pleased to share that we have received six nominations for nine open board positions! The ballots for the nominations have been forwarded to the ISRs for a vote at their November meeting. And - we still have several positions available. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Dan if you are interested in exploring an interim appointment as a board member. You can email Dan B. at [email protected].

The board would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent survey. We are reviewing responses and compiling comments to share with our members next month and plan to publish our findings on our website. I’m happy to share that the ten survey participants who entered to win a free Al-Anon book have been notified, and books have been sent out. Again, thank you to all who responded to the survey.

One final note about our annual Non-Event Fundraiser: If you plan to contribute to it, please do so soon. We are close to meeting our goal, and your donation matters!

Yours in service,

Cindi H., Board Chair

Message From Your Board

ATTENTION

Information Service Representatives (ISRs) and ALL other Al-Anon members

Please read this announcement to your Group for several Meetings. We need your help!

Our Al-Anon Fellowship needs Your Support and Participation.

Remember our book When I Got Busy, I Got Better (P-78)? My secret weapon in recovery is doing service. Twelfth-step work helps me build my self-esteem, confidence, and trust. I have met amazing Al-Anon members while serving on the Board these past two years. You now have this opportunity.

Al-Anon is comprised of Service. Our program exists only because of the thousands of members like Lois who have served others. The 7th Tradition is not just a matter of contributing money each week; it also includes doing Service. Without Service, we’d have no Fellowship. Because no meeting occurs without it, Service is a cornerstone of the beautiful Al-Anon program from which we’ve received so much. Whenever I attend a meeting or contact an Al-Anon member, I benefit from a long and continuous line of Service that extends back to Lois.

Nominations are now being accepted from Al-Anon members willing to serve on our San Diego Intergroup Service Board, which manages the activities and affairs of the San Diego Al-Anon Family Groups (AFG) office, which is also our Literature Distribution Center (LDC). The only requirements are:

• Al-Anon member for two (2) years

• No dual membership in AA and Al-Anon

• Two (2) year commitment

Ten positions need to be filled for our 2025 Service Board. Position descriptions and the nomination form (in English and Spanish) are under Resources on our website, www.alanonsandiego.org.

Please nominate yourself, your sponsor, your sponsee, or someone you admire from your home group. All nominations are due by Wednesday, October 9. Please send them to Dan B., Historian & Nominations Chair, at [email protected], or they can be mailed to our Al-Anon office. Please email or call Dan B. with any questions.

Thank you for being of service!

Dan B., Historian & Nominations Chair
