VOLUNTEER FOCUS OF THE MONTH: SUSAN L.

Your AIS Office can only function with the help of our wonderful volunteers. So, each month, we highlight one amazing volunteer by having them answer three questions. Thank you for your service, Susan L.!

1) What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

A. Having the opportunity to make one person’s day just a little brighter. That can be a welcoming voice when answering the office telephone, helping a member find a meeting, assisting with a literature purchase, or stuffing a newcomer packet into an envelope and making sure it gets in today's mail.

2) What is your favorite piece of conference-approved literature?

A. Hope for Today—I can relate to many of the messages, and even though the focus is on the adult children of alcoholics, I think it is an excellent resource on how to get along with people and life in general.

3) What experience, strength, and hope would you share with a newcomer?

A. Do service even in the smallest of ways. My first service position in 2016 was the phone list at Serenity at the Lake on Sundays. My next service was as a secretary. Bit by bit, I learned that I was safe—that it didn’t have to be perfect and that others were there to help. Now, I am privileged to do the Intercom, which allows me to feel connected to every member. Plus, I get to play with fonts and margins!
