San Diego Al-Anon Member Survey

Your Service Board wants your feedback!

We want to understand what you know about our service, how it can be improved, and your preferred forms of communication. We also need your ideas on encouraging service at all levels in Al-Anon and Alateen.

The survey is designed to be quick and easy, taking only about 10 minutes to complete. The deadline for participation is September 30, 2024. We will give away 10 Al-Anon books through a special drawing of all survey participants.

The survey is available in English and Spanish.

Vice-Chair Report / Non-Event Fundraiser

The 2024 Non-Event Fundraiser will begin Saturday, September 7, and run through Sunday, November 3, 2023. This is the third main fundraising effort for the year, and these contributions are needed to support the San Diego AIS Office in continuing to serve the San Diego Al-Anon Family Groups.

“We contribute in gratitude for what we have received from Al-Anon," and all Al-Anon contributions are tax deductible.

Please see the attached *FLYER* for the four different ways to contribute.

Thank you!

Grateful to be of Service,

Trenta

Vice-Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

I am excited that Laura H. will continue to work with the AIS Board on a contract basis, supporting Rina as she takes over office management responsibilities. On behalf of the board, I’d like to thank Laura for her excellent work keeping the office running smoothly during the past several years, especially during the COVID pandemic - a particularly unique moment for all of us.

Several AIS Office Board members will complete their two-year service terms in December 2024. If you have been an ISR, a GR, or in the Al-Anon program for at least two years, please consider standing for a board position. You can find position descriptions on the SD AIS website under RESOURCES, or you can contact Dan B, our Historian and Nominations Chair, for more information. The board oversees the activities of our SD AIS Office - which also acts as our local Literature Distribution Center - to ensure information is always available for those who need the support of Al-Anon and Alateen.

Thank you for allowing me to be of service!

Cindi H, Board Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

Thank you to those who joined us in person at the San Diego County AIS office for our annual Birthday Celebration. It was wonderful to see so many Al-Anon members in person. We thank everyone who supported this annual fundraising event with generous donations!

We’ve received a few questions about meeting conduct recently. In keeping with Al-Anon’s Traditions and Concepts, it is up to each group to determine the best meeting format for their group. Electronic meetings have unique challenges and the WSO is working with the GRs of electronic groups to determine the way forward. I encourage all meetings to have a GR and an ISR. These positions can provide support and information as a group considers options and solutions for various situations. Whether in an in-person or electronic group, knowledge-based decision-making (KBDM) is always helpful in business meeting discussions. You can find group and meeting resources and guidelines in the 2022-2025 Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual on the WSO website: https://al-anon.org/or by visiting https://www.alanonsandiego.org/. Service is the heart of Al-Anon/Alateen, and we appreciate hearing from you.

I am grateful to all my fellow board members, the dedicated volunteers who support our events and office, the staff who keep our local office functioning smoothly, and all our San Diego Al-Anon and Alateen members.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of service!

Cindi H., Board Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

I look forward to seeing you at the San Diego County AIS Office for our annual Birthday Celebration fundraising event on May 25, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm. In addition to fellowship and a fabulous cake, we will have three speakers (Al-Anon, Alateen, and Spanish-speaking Al-Anon) sharing their experiences, strengths, and hopes. Plus, the office will be open for literature sales.

On behalf of our board, we again ask everyone to consider participating in service above the group level. Service is the heart of Al-Anon, and we need your voice at the table. If your Group does not have a GR or an ISR, please discuss this in your next business meeting and encourage participation.

Thank you for supporting your San Diego office,

Cindi H, Board Chair

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

Thank you for your continued support of the Al-Anon Area Information Service (AIS) Office Board. We strive to support the San Diego Al-Anon and Alateen community by having Conference Approved Literature available and maintaining an accessible AIS office where members feel supported and welcomed. Our website is constantly updated with meeting information and resources. In fact, did you know ...

... our website includes a Google Translate button in the upper left-hand corner to translate the website into Spanish?

... there are dedicated Alateen resources available on the website?

... the Intercom is available for free? It lists upcoming special events, speaker meetings, meeting updates, and more. Please encourage your Al-Anon and Alateen friends to sign up.

Be sure to check out our website at WWW.ALANONSANDIEGO.ORG.

Next, mark your calendars to join us at the San Diego County AIS Office for our annual Birthday Celebration fundraising event on May 25, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm. Three speakers (Al-Anon, Alateen, and Spanish-speaking Al-Anon) will share their experiences, strengths, and hopes. The office will be open for literature sales, and we will have two birthday cakes! We hope to see you there.

Finally, please consider participating in service above the group level. Service is the heart of Al-Anon, and we need your voice at the table. If your Group does not have a GR or an ISR, please discuss this in your next business meeting and encourage participation.

Thank you for supporting your San Diego office!

Message From Your Board

Dear Al-Anon Friends,

Our AIS Office Assistant, Rina, will celebrate her one-year work anniversary on March 21st. If you have a chance, please take a moment to thank Rina — we are grateful for her excellent work in helping the office run smoothly!

Thank you to all those involved in the recent “GleeAnon” Musical fundraising event. It was fun and highly entertaining and truly showcased the talents of many of our Al-Anon friends. Thank you to everyone who contributed and to everyone who showed up to enjoy the show.

And, speaking of events, please SAVE THE DATE for the AIS Office’s annual Birthday Celebration fundraising event on May 25, 2024. A flyer with full details is available.

Finally, please encourage all groups to participate in the San Diego Service Area by having a Group Representative AND a dedicated Information Service Representative (ISR). Service is the heart of Al-Anon, and we need your voice at the table. If your group does not have an ISR, please talk about this in your next business meeting and encourage participation.

Thank you for supporting the San Diego office!

Cindi H, Board Chair
